aGROWForests Project

The aGROWForests project is a three year project funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) to increase the income and productivity of smallholder pepper farmers through climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and implementing regenerative agroforestry practices. The project targeted smallholder pepper farmers in Bangka Belitung province and Lampung province in Indonesia. The project aims to reach 2,300 farmers (30% of whom are women and 15% are youth). The aGROWForests project is looking for Change Makers to support project implementation.

Training Coordinator Role

Training Coordinator must understand and accept the responsibilities and obligations that must be carried out, including designing training program strategies, implementing training programs, and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs. While the program partners will create the content, the Training Coordinator will provide feedback and ensure its alignment with program goals. Training Coordinator must also comply with all applicable policies and procedures in the training program and be able to understand the roles assigned during the program.

The following are the roles for Training Coordinator:

  1. Designing training strategies that suit the needs of farmers and local conditions, understanding the problems faced by farmers, and designing training strategies that can help farmers improve their productivity and improve their welfare.
  2. Carrying out the training program well and ensuring that the trainees benefit from the training program. Training Coordinator must be able to design and develop training program effectively, collaborate with other consortium partners to create training materials, curriculum, and resources, including selecting and developing training modules, presentations, handouts, et cetera, and to ensure that trainees understand and able to apply the training materials with pepper farmers.
  3. Training Coordinator is expected to create Change Makers training session schedules, create farmer training session schedules including class and field practice, arrange necessary training equipment and materials, and to ensure that all logistical requirements for a smooth training experience are in place.
  4. Evaluating the success of the training program and ensuring that the training program provides the expected benefits for farmers. They must be able to periodically evaluate and measure the training program's impact on farmer productivity and according to the monitoring and evaluation plan.
  5. Training Coordinator is expected to collect feedbacks from training participants and trainers to assess the effectiveness of the training programs, analyze feedback and make recommendations for improvements in the next training sessions.
  6. Identifying new opportunities and developing training programs according to the latest trends in agriculture. They must stay abreast of the latest developments in agriculture and ensure that the training programs are kept relevant and effective.
  7. Compiling regular reports on the training activities carried out. Training Coordinator must be able to collect feedback, evaluate training results, and compile accurate and detailed reports.


  1. Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of training and capacity building.
  2. Preferably has strong understanding of farming practices, techniques, and principles, familiarity with crop cultivation, and sustainable farming practices.
  3. Preferably have ever been in an international project in training farmers and capacity building.
  4. Relevant knowledge to assess farmers' training needs, ability to identify knowledge gaps, skill deficiencies, and specific challenges farmers face in their agricultural practices in order to tailor training programs to meet their specific needs.
  5. Relevant knowledge in designing and delivering farmer training programs, understanding of farmer learning principles, and instructional design methodologies.
  6. Excellent communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English, able to communicate complex agricultural concepts in a clear and understandable manner to create a positive learning experience.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as cultural sensitivity and understanding are required to work with farmers from various regions, respecting traditions and practices while introducing new techniques and knowledge.
  8. Available and able to travel to Bangka and Lampung.
  9. Strong project management skills to efficiently plan, organize, and execute training initiatives. This includes coordinating schedules, managing resources, and ensuring that training activities are completed on time.
